10 Points To Discuss In Your Argumentative Essay On Fast Food

When it comes to fast food, there is a lot of controversies. Do you know what you’re eating? Does anyone? Most fast food chains claim to be very animal-friendly and claim how good their food actually is in comparison to how it is perceived, but how much of what they’re saying is actually true? In your essay, there are many things you could discuss, but don’t forget to do the research. To help you get started, I’ve made a list of 10 points:

  1. Treatment of animals
  2. The treatment of animals is a great one to start up on; it is a very hot topic which will engage the attention of your reader. Make sure you investigate this fully, as some chains claim to treat animals well.

  3. A number of calories
  4. In fast food, there are usually a lot more calories than in other food, for example in some places one burger may be the calorie equivalent of half an adult’s RDA (recommended daily allowance).

  5. How the food is made
  6. Often scare stories are shared across the internet about the horrors of how food is made in the industry. Do you think they’re true? This could be something to discuss.

  7. What is in the food
  8. When you think of a burger patty, you will probably just imagine the ingredients minced beef, and maybe onions and spices. What do you think there really is a fast food chain’s burger?

  9. Health impacts of eating fast food
  10. A lot of studies have been done about what happens when you eat fast food day in, day out. Obviously, this shows the drastic effects, but it gives you an idea of the real dangers of eating fast food.

  11. How convenient it is
  12. Sure fast food might not be the healthiest option, but is it not convenient? When you’re in a rush, or you’re just feeling lazy, fast food is a quick and easy way to get your food.

  13. The job opportunities for young people
  14. Even if you don’t agree with fast food, it does provide good job opportunities for young people who may have to shape their work lives around school or college.

  15. You should only eat fast food occasionally
  16. This links back to the health impacts and the convenience; you shouldn’t eat fast food all of the time because it could lead to some bad impacts, but it is convenient and can be useful now and then.

  17. The cost
  18. Some fast food is quite expensive, is it worth it to spend this much money on a burger when you could spend less than that making an entire meal from scratch at home?

  19. Takes customers away from local businesses
  20. As fast food chains often sell things like milkshakes, salads, and cookies, this can take customers away from local businesses and cause more competition and friction in the area.

Admittedly there are a lot of issues with fast food, but there are also benefits. It’s up to you to decide which side you stand at, however, make sure you explore each point from a variety of angles. Different fast food chains have different policies and situations, so if you are naming any restaurants in your essay, make sure you do the relevant research into that business.
