Brainstorming winning argumentative essay topics for 6th grade

The two important words to be defined in this particular article are about brainstorming and I'll discuss that in detail in just a while. And the second is to understand what is meant by an argumentative essay topic. As we're talking about students in sixth grade here, it's really important that understanding is to the fore. Simply being able to regurgitate information and write a number of sentences is not enough. You need to understand what both brainstorming and argumentative essay topics are all about. Let's begin with the brainstorming.

This is where you take a word or words and use that information as a trigger point for coming up with new ideas. New ideas are at the heart of any essay writing and certainly with argumentative essay topics. One of the really good aspects of brainstorming is that you don't have to do it by yourself. You can get far more ideas if you brainstorm with at least one other person. With the word or words that you've chosen on a piece of paper in front of you, you simply say the first thing that comes into your head. You may think of many things and each one of these things has to be notated. Only when you finish the brainstorming session which may only last a couple of minutes, do you then look at the piece of paper with all the ideas that have come up and decide which ones are relevant for your argumentative essay writing topic.

What is an argumentative essay?

Just as the name implies, in an argumentative essay you will be arguing for a point of view. So the first thing you need to do is choose a topic you really like but then choose a topic you really like which divides people. You want an argumentative topic. Once you've settled on the topic you then need to get the evidence to support the point of view you're going to take. You look at the issue and you decide that you're going to argue for such and such. Now you’re ready to write an argumentative essay which supports your point of view.

So just to re-cap these two most important points. Brainstorming give you lots of new ideas and new ideas are really important when writing essays. And argumentative essays are ones which divide opinion. You take an issue which some people support and some people oppose. You need to take one position and then support your belief with lots of relevant and interesting information.
